The TCNJ Clinic is a community based training clinic located on The College of New Jersey campus in Forcina Hall room 124. The Clinic provides low cost counseling to couples, families and individuals related to communication, life cycle changes, career and school difficulties, stress and anxiety, depression, abuse, sexual dysfunction, infidelity, substance abuse and gender identity or sexual orientation. Clients will be seen by graduate level interns who are supervised by licensed professionals active in the field.
Family Therapy and Counseling - Assessment and evaluation of family functioning. Treatment of family systems problems including: * Adapting to predictable family life cycle transitions * Communication problems between family members * School- or work-related problems affecting the family * Problems with child and adolescent behavior * Substance abuse and its effects on the family * Abusive behavior within the family * Illness or disability as it effects the family * Death or loss of a family member
Couples Therapy and Counseling - Assessment and evaluation of couple functioning. Treatment of couples' problems including: * Communication problems * Substance abuse * Work- or social-related stress * Sexual dysfunction * Infidelity * Abusive behavior * Life cycle and developmental changes
Individual Therapy and Counseling - Assessment and evaluation of individual problems. Treatment of issues including: * Life cycle changes * Stress and anxiety * Depression * School issues * Substance abuse * Career related issues * Gender identity or sexual identity

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) - Located in Eickhoff Hall, Room 107, offers free counseling services for currently enrolled TCNJ students. CAPS has a robust group counseling program with multiple groups for a variety of mental health concerns (groups at CAPS have no participation limits). CAPS also offers brief individual counseling services to all TCNJ students. In addition, CAPS has an urgent walk-in service for students in immediate crisis. Prevention and educational programming for the TCNJ community is offered year round. Services are provided in order to assist students in overcoming personal challenges or concerns that may be interfering with their ability to achieve academic success. These services are confidential and no record of counseling appears on the student's permanent academic record.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
