Services Offered
Mental Health Counseling - Our Mental Health Counseling Program provides mental health services to children, youth, and families, in individual, family and community settings. We utilize a strengths-based, family-centered approach and an array of strategies to support our clients in achieving their goals. We collaborate with important people in clients' lives (family members, teachers, case workers, doctors, friends) in order to strengthen support that "wraps around" the client and fosters long term success. Some of our therapy clients receive psychiatric evaluation and medication monitoring on-site. Our therapists employ a number of approaches with children, including Play Therapy. Play therapy is a developmentally appropriate research-based method for treating children.
Individual, couples, and family counseling - We provide mental health treatment to children, youth, and families who are experiencing difficulties in their lives. We work with such issues as depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, ADD/ADHD, divorce and separations as well as other family disruptions and transitions. We use a strengths-based approach and strive to tailor our services to the particular strengths and needs of each of our clients.
Infant-Early Childhood Mental Health (IEC MH) - We provide relationship-focused interventions to parents, foster parents, or other primary caregivers with children ages birth through five years old. Children and parents often need help recovering from the effects of early trauma, loss, family conflict, addiction, abuse and stress. Sometimes parenting is not what parents expect it to be, or other challenges like depression or anxiety, and sleep or feeding challenges can make caring for a new baby difficult. All of these things can greatly impact the development of the child and the parent-child relationship. A key goal in our IMH work is a more satisfying relationship between the caregiver and child. The treatment models used at CHS are evidence-based and include Promoting First Relationships and the Child-Parent Psychotherapy model for working with trauma. We believe when parents are nurtured and supported themselves, they are better able to meet the needs of their children.
Substance Abuse Prevention, Intervention & Treatment - Our Substance Abuse Department is dedicated to providing holistic treatment services for individuals who are harmfully involved with alcohol and/or other drugs. The substance abuse department's mission is to reduce/eliminate substance abuse from the lives of our participants and their families. To fulfill this mission we offer prevention, intervention, and treatment services for youth and adults. Certified by Washington State, the Substance Abuse Department provides all services using evidence-based and innovative practices, many of which are nationally recognized. CARF accredited Assessment & Referral, Outpatient, Intensive Outpatient, and Court programs.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
