Behavioral Health
People seek mental health assistance for a variety of reasons; for themselves or their families; for home or work relationship issues; for feeling uncomfortable or on edge; for personal tragedy, long-lasting discouragement, or depression; for child or teen behavior or discipline issues, and many other reasons.
Often, behavioral and emotional concerns can cast a shadow on everyday life, creating additional problems that may, in time, get worse without help.
Upham's Corner offers a wide range of behavioral health services to ensure that our patients and community have access to help when they need it. The Behavioral Health department located at 415 Columbia Road is available for persons of all ages offering affordable, comprehensive, and accessible behavioral health care.
Addiction Services
It is our program's mission to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness effecting our health center patients and community by providing comprehensive, integrated, behavioral health addictions treatment within our community-based primary care setting.
Our goal is to help individuals achieve personal change and accept responsibility toward an improved quality of life. Our services include evaluations for services, individual, family, and group counseling and case management for UCHC registered patients. Our addictions groups are for adult patients 18 years of age and older. Our department staff is a multidisciplinary team consisting of licensed alcohol and drug counselors, licensed clinical social workers, licensed mental health counselors, a psychologist and psychiatry services.
Fees and Payment
-We serve all patients. -We offer discounted fees for patients who qualify. -We do not deny services based on a person's race, disability, color, sex, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, or inability to pay. -We accept insurance, including: Medicaid, Medicare, and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
