Services Offered
Individual & Family Counseling - FSC's traditional, office-based counseling services, which are provided at our Galveston and Dickinson office locations. Clinicians are trained to help individuals of all ages address a variety of difficult issues: * Anxiety * Depression * Chronic Illness * Family Stress/Conflict * Grief and Loss * Marital Issues * Anger * ADHD/ADD * Relationship Issues * Work Stress * Parenting Concerns

Services To At-Risk Youth (STAR) - The Star Program is a state-funded child abuse and delinquency prevention program that provides short-term individual, family and group counseling services to youth under age 18 who have risk factors for child abuse, delinquency and school dropout in Galveston, Liberty and Chambers County. STAR program helps bring out the best in family life through communication and cooperation. Services are available at FSC offices, schools and community-based settings with the majority of youth receiving services during the school year. Services are free to families who qualify and are covered by the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services.
Juvenile Justice - The Juvenile Justice Program provides on-site counseling and related social services to youth in detention and/or on probation at the Juvenile Justice Center and to youth identified by probation officers as being in need of counseling services. Through collaboration, youth and their counselor identify goals to enhance healthy choices. Services include group, individual and family counseling. This program is fully supported by Galveston County's Juvenile Justice Department.
Oasis Program - Offers individual and group counseling, family therapy and intensive therapeutic services to youth who have engaged in inappropriate, illegal and/or dangerous sexual behavior. As an alternative to detention, this program provides intensive assessment and monitoring using clinical polygraph and allows youth to remain with their families during a structured treatment program. A dual emphasis on helping the youth/family and ensuring the safety of the community are equally balanced. This program is funded in part by Galveston County's Juvenile Justice Department.
Community Support Services Program - Increases access to counseling and related resources for individuals in non-traditional community based settings. These services reduce barriers to accessing counseling services and are provided to persons of all ages through an ongoing partnership with University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). Services include counseling at St. Vincent's Hope Clinic in Galveston and at clinics in Alvin and Angleton.
Victim Support Services - FSC Victim Support Services clinicians are trained to help by providing strengths-based, solution-focused counseling and emotional support. We will help you manage stress and teach you strategies to help you cope. Remember, your feelings are normal, some reactions don't surface until later, and everyone handles stress differently. Services are grant funded and offered at no charge.
Prevention Program - The comprehensive services of Family Service Center's Prevention Program aim to increase prevention and counseling services for youth and their families, encourage community collaboration and enhance youth & family support across Galveston Island. The Prevention program provides prevention, counseling and other related services to youth on Galveston Island attending a school in the Galveston Independent School District to support their mental health needs and aid them in graduating high school and attending college.
Fees and Payment
FSC's Goal is to make services available and accessible to all persons, regardless of income level. Individuals can access counseling services in the Individuals and Families Program through a sliding fee scale, insurance, Medicaid, and EAP programs.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
