Community Concern is a not-for-profit social service agency founded in 1971 by concerned community residents to improve the quality of life for those in social or emotional distress. Services are funded by the Erie County Department of Senior Services, Towns of Evans, Brant, Collins, North Collins and Eden, and Individual and business contributions All services are provided in accordance with laws governing personal rights and confidentiality. Services are available regardless of race, color, sexual orientation or religion.

Family/Marital Treatment
Clinicians at Community Concern are trained in short-term solution-focused family and marital treatment modalities. Community concern offers workshops in healthy relationships, parenting, assertiveness, anger management and effective communication. Addictions and the Family
Community Concern offers treatment for mentally ill chemically dependent (MICA) people that include relapse prevention, family therapy, group treatment for family members of addicted individuals.
Trauma
Community Concern staff can offer effective techniques in helping trauma victims return to healthy functioning. Staff is skilled in the newest technologies including critical incident debriefing, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) that are rapid and effective in reducing anxiety and post-traumatic stress symptoms. Traditional supportive and grief interventions are employed to help victim's recovery from traumatic losses in their lives Crisis Intervention
Community Concern has a multidisciplinary team (social work, nursing, psychiatry, case management) who can provide immediate crisis intervention to domestic violence victims, people presenting suicidal intent, or other severe family conflict
Stress Management
Community Concern offers a stress management workshop that includes relaxation training, coping skills training, sleep hygiene education. The 9-12 week workshop teaches how to eliminate stressors when possible and cope effectively with those you cannot change. Workshops can be tailored to any employer or group.
Anxiety Disorders
Community Concern offers treatments including cognitive-behavioral therapies, stress management workshop, exposure therapy, relaxation therapy, and sleep hygiene education to effectively treat anxiety disorders. Sleep Disorders
Sleep research shows that inadequate, disturbed sleep patterns can lead to significant performance deficits, physical and psychological symptoms. Clinical staff can provide short-term pharmacological interventions, education on good sleep hygiene and behavioral counseling to achieve lasting improvement in sleep.
Mood Disorders
For most people with depression, brief psychotherapy and/or medication is the most effective approach to effective treatment. Community Concern has skilled clinicians and a board certified psychiatrist to correctly diagnose and treat depression Domestic Violence Program
Services are designed for both perpetrators and victims of family violence to improve relationships. A 14-week program for men can prevent family violence and strengthen relationships. Participants will learn to recognize and control anger, how to listen to self and others, and assert needs without violence. Women who are in co-dependent or abusive relationships will learn healthy and effective ways to build, enrich and improve relations, communicate and resolve conflicts.
Living without Violence is a 14-week group counseling and education program for men who choose to prevent or end harmful behavior that occurs in close relationships.
First Offender Program
The First Offend Program at Community Concern is an 8-week group counseling and education program that gives adolescents a chance to clear their court record.
The group teaches adolescents how to manage anger effectively, anticipate consequences for their behavior, and the effects of alcohol and drug use. Juveniles participate in the Collins Correctional Facility's Youth Assistance Program (YAP), a powerful presentation on consequences of unlawful behavior. The First Offenders Program is more effective than community service alone, particularity for youth exposed to family substance abuse or conflict. Outcome surveys with parents show that the First Offenders Program achieves lasting improvements in behavior and academic performance.
Fees and Payment
Hourly fees are a range from $60-120 depending on who you see. In addition to weekly appointments, the charge may apply to other services including report writing, preparation of records or treatment summaries, and the time spent performing any other service you may request of us. If you become involved in legal proceedings that require our participation, you will be expected to pay for all of our professional time, including preparation and transportation costs, even if your therapist is called to testify by another party.
You will be expected to pay for each session at the time it is held unless you have insurance coverage that requires another arrangement You will receive a receipt for each payment.
If no such coverage is available, you are charged a fee based on your income. The remainder of the fee is subsidized by funding from New York State and the Towns of Evans and Brant.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
