Services Offered
Children's Mental Health - We're dedicated to working with families and children to provide individualized services that address life's challenges. You'll work with trained professionals to determine which services should be selected, based upon the needs and strengths identified by the parents, child, teachers, and our professionals during initial meetings. Services are intended to support the development of new skills for the enrolled child and their family, and enhance the functioning of an entire family in their everyday environments.
Individual, Family, and Group Psychotherapy - Psychotherapy involves participating in individual, family or group sessions with a mental health therapist. Psychotherapy techniques and interventions vary depending on the therapist and the goals you identify. While each therapist in our program has a different approach, we all strive to provide services that are individualized, culturally sensitive, respectful, responsive to family-identified needs, and based on family strengths. All therapists employed in our program hold a Master's degree in a mental health profession such as Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Social Work. Each therapist is licensed or obtaining licensure in the State of Alaska. You are also welcome to ask specific questions about your therapist's background and experience. Therapy services can be done individually, with the family or in a group setting. They may occur in the school, our offices, at your home or in a community setting. Some of the areas our therapists focus on are preventing suicide and self-harm, preventing hospitalizations, promoting family supports and integration in the community through access to available resources, provide parents and recipients with ways to manage personal challenges, promote a choice to be substance free and support appropriate education necessary for eventual independent living.
Psychiatric Services - We partner with Seattle Children's Hospital to provide psychiatric services. Utilizing state of the art video conferencing equipment, the Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists are able to complete psychiatric assessments, medication management and to monitor the effectiveness of medication. Any child utilizing this service must be participating regularly in clinical or community based services so that we can support the growth of new life skills and provide feedback to the psychiatrist.
Children's Mental Health Outcomes - At Community Connections we strive for a high quality of services and continuous improvement. By evaluating and measuring our progress we are able to reflect on the areas of strengths as well as the areas we need to improve upon. Community Connections recognizes that in order to develop a strong Performance Improvement Plan with measurable outcomes, we must gather input from persons served, employees, joint service providers and the community. The team analyzes customer and staff surveys, customer data, incident reports, financial and HR reports, performance improvement reports and outcomes management processes.

If You Call, Please Let Us Know How it Went:
Were You Able to Make an Appointment?
One quick last question. Who was seeking counseling today?
Do you know the reason they are not accepting clients?
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
