Services Offered
Counseling South Lane Mental Health treats a range of mental health and emotional issues including depression and other mood disorders such as post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD), trauma, abuse, and anxiety disorders in individuals, families and children.
We are committed to promoting emotional, behavioral and psychological growth so that clients can better address their mental health concerns.
Counselors use a variety of therapeutic techniques in individual and family settings. Counselors offer trauma informed therapy, cognitive therapy, EMDR, biofeedback, group therapy, and other approaches to recovery.
Youth Counseling South Lane Mental Health works with children (ages 2 months-18 years) and families to address problems related to anger, depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, poor communication, as well as family changes/transitions and many other mental health conditions and mood disorders.
Counselors specialize in the use of play, art and sand tray therapy in order to offer children comfortable ways to explore, express and resolve feelings about situations or events that may be distressing or confusing to them. Our facility is equipped with therapeutic rooms specially suited to expressive therapies with children.
Counselors also work with parents, grandparents and caregivers to provide a safe place to express and explore concerns regarding their child. Resolving parent-child conflicts, improving family-wide communication, gaining realistic expectations for children, and learning effective parenting strategies are offered.
Crisis Services Since 1993, South Lane Mental Health has contracted with Cottage Grove Medical Center to provide round-the-clock emergency room response for individuals experiencing psychiatric crises.
In the emergency room, we assess the individual's condition, make recommendations to hospital staff, and with the patient, determine whether psychiatric hospitalization is needed. Our staff work with the patient on a safety plan which includes making an appointment to be seen at South Lane Mental Health within 24 hours. South Lane Mental Health also offers a series of follow-up counseling sessions. The combination of crisis counseling, medications, and immediate access to treatment through South Lane Mental Health's outpatient counseling program has diverted many people in crisis from in-patient hospitalization to community-based treatment. Case Management South Lane Mental Health promotes recovery, independence, and successful community living.
Counselors and case managers work one-on-one with clients to develop a support system, stable housing and stable income.
Counselors and case managers check on clients daily and provide assistance with budgeting, shopping, and other independent living skills. Medication Management South Lane Mental Health believes that a team effort involving clients, family members and supporters, and medical practitioners can most effectively guide medication decisions that will best promote recovery.
We provide mental health assessment and medical reviews, coordinate with primary care physicians, and provide direct medication management for those who would benefit from receiving these services.
Recovery Services At South Lane Mental Health's substance use disorder recovery program, we recognize that each person who struggles with addiction comes with a unique history, set of circumstances, and challenges. That's why our expert team works with each individual to treat the whole person - physically, mentally, and emotionally.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
