Each year we grant Top Non-Profit Badges to agencies based on these criteria:
Our aim is to guide our users to agencies most likely to be able to help. In addition to the above criteria we also exercise editorial discretion with our choice based upon our experience. We take our responsibility and objectivity seriously. We don't accept any form of payment from providers for this honor.
Regis University's Division of Counseling and Family Therapy provides progressive, experiential learning in a state-of-the art counseling center. The Centers for Counseling and Family Therapy reside in both the Colorado Springs and Thornton campuses. At the Thornton campus, our clients will have access to designated Child and Adolescent Play Therapy rooms. This campus has earned the esteemed designation as an Approved Center of Play Therapy Education by the Association for Play Therapy (APT).
Our counseling training rooms are equipped with two way mirrors and non-intrusive audio and video components that foster an interactive learning model with "real time " feedback and review. Our therapists use both visual and audio tools to enhance their clinical skills on their path to becoming outstanding counselors and family clinicians.
Regis Centers for Counseling & Family Therapy
The Regis Centers for Counseling and Family Therapy have been set up to provide low to no-cost counseling services for our surrounding communities. Master's Level therapists-in-training will meet with you once per week for an average of 14 weeks per semester. You will have a consistent counselor over those 14 weeks, and your appointment will be at the same time each week.
We do ask that those receiving therapy agree to be video recorded, as this provides real-time feedback for the therapist to evaluate their skills along with their supervisor. Emerging therapists are eager to learn, and your commitment helps increase the scope and quality of future mental health services as these soon-to-be graduates enter the workforce. You can look forward to an authentic and growth-oriented relationship with your therapist, as well as to the development of your own base of life-skills derived from the latest research and best practices offered in the field.
Individual Counseling
Individual counseling is a personal opportunity to receive support and experience growth during challenging times in life. Individual counseling can help one deal with many personal topics in life such as anger, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, marriage and relationship challenges, parenting problems, school difficulties, career changes etc.
Couples Counseling
Every couple experiences ups and downs in their levels of closeness and harmony over time. This can range from basic concerns of stagnation to serious expressions of aggressive behavior. Marriage counseling or couples counseling can help resolve conflicts and heal wounds. Overall, couples counseling can help couples slow down their spiral and reestablish realistic expectations and goals.
Family Therapy
Family therapy is often sought due to a life change or stress negatively affecting one or all areas of family closeness, family structure (rules and roles) or communication style. This mode of counseling can take a variety of forms. Sometimes it is best to see an entire family together for several sessions. Common issues addressed in family therapy are concerns around parenting, sibling conflict, loss of family members, new members entering the family, dealing with a major move or a general change affecting the family system.
Child Play Therapy
Child play therapy is a way of being with the child that honors their unique developmental level and looks for ways of helping in the "language" of the child - play.
Licensed mental health professionals therapeutically use play to help their clients, most often children ages three to 12 years, to better express themselves and resolve their problems.
Play Therapy works best when a safe relationship is created between the therapist and client, one in which the latter may freely and naturally express both what pleases and bothers them.
Mental health agencies, schools, hospitals, and private practitioners have utilized Play Therapy as a primary intervention or as supportive therapy for:
Behavioral problems, such as anger management, grief and loss, divorce and abandonment, and crisis and trauma.
Behavioral disorders, such as anxiety, depression, attention deficit hyperactivity (ADHD), autism or pervasive developmental, academic and social developmental, physical and learning disabilities, and conduct disorders.
