Residential Programs Our programs are geared toward integrating youth back into their families and communities. We work to create a therapeutic environment by involving the family as part of the program, and we can provide therapeutic interventions that are empowering and tailored to the needs of each individual and family.
Programs for Girls Arrowhead expanded its programming in 2004 to include residential treatment services for girls. Services for girls are offered under the traditional program and utilize strengths-based cognitive behavioral therapy in a group setting. Some therapeutic changes have been made to ensure that we are most effectively meeting the needs of adolescent girls (gender-specific treatment).
Strategies to Succeed Strategies to Succeed is an intensive, strengths-based curriculum led by experienced Arrowhead counselors for youth-at-risk in our community. This early preventitive program is designed to empower youth to develop skills and build on their individual strengths in the context of guided peer group sessions. The curriculum is appropriate for boys and girls aged 11-18 and can be modified to last from 8-16 weeks.
Education Programs Educational services are provided on-campus at Arrowhead's private non-public special education school. As a self-contained special education program, Arrowhead is able to provide a student-teacher ratio of 5:1. All teachers are LBS-1 unlimited certified and are Highly Qualified by NCLB standards. Independent Living Skills It is Arrowhead's intent to instill in each resident a realistic work ethic and to impart life skills that will help them be successful in their lives and jobs after leaving the program.
Aftercare Services The goal of aftercare is to help a young man or woman maintain a successful transition to returning home following a positive release from Arrowhead. Through aftercare contact, the former resident is assisted with family, peer, or personal problems for up to 90 days. Additional Services Additional services can be arranged when necessary, and the family or placing agency is ultimately responsible for payment and treatment permission.
Psychological testing and consultation services are available for all Arrowhead residents.
Psychiatric consultations are available on an as-needed basis through the Robert Young Mental Health Center. Psychiatric evaluations and consultations are used to support individual treatment plans for residents.
Drug and alcohol recovery groups are offered for residents who have a substance abuse diagnosis. These groups are Level I and have a treatment focus but are educational.
Youth in need of sexual abuse counseling beyond what is provided in the group setting may be referred to Family Resources for services in the Sexual Abuse and Victimization Program.
Employment services are offered prior to a resident's release from Arrowhead. Arrangements can be made to refer a young adult to an employment service or military service.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
