Services Offered
ADULT PRIMARY & BEHAVIORAL CARE At Cherokee Health Systems, our philosophy is simple. We believe the best approach to wellness involves treating both the body and mind. That's why we care for our patients using an integrated care model. This model presents patients and families with opportunities to become actively engaged in comprehensive healthcare.
Integrated Care: What is it? A team of primary care and behavioral health clinicians working together with patients and families to provide patient-centered care. This care may address mental health and substance misuse conditions, health behaviors (including their contribution to chronic medical illnesses), life stressors and crises, and stress-related physical symptoms.
CHILD & ADOLESCENT CARE At Cherokee Health Systems, we are proud to serve the youngest members of your family. We offer a wide-array of services for children and adolescents provided by professional and caring staff who are dedicated to the integrated model. This means that primary care physicians work alongside behavioral health clinicians to offer your child more holistic care.
Primary Care Primary medical care services are offered to newborns, children, and teenagers at most Cherokee Health Systems locations. These services include well-child visits, immunizations, diagnosis and treatment of acute illnesses, school and sports physicals, and diagnosis and treatment of chronic illnesses like asthma, allergies, and ADHD.
Behavioral Health Care Integrated with primary care services, Cherokee Health Systems also offers behavioral health services to children and teens. Our pediatric behavioral health clinicians provide treatment for a number of behavioral conditions including ADHD, anxiety, depression, disruptive behavior problems, trauma, sleep problems, and self-management of obesity, asthma, and other chronic illnesses. A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
