Services Offered
Addictions Recovery * Outpatient Services - Each treatment plan is designed to address individual needs. Prestera services help improve recovery supports and quality of life for individuals who suffer from the disease of addiction or who are using or abusing alcohol and/or other drugs. Services focus on making measurable improvements in maintaining a healthy lifestyle through professional counseling services, recovery coaching and 12-step recovery support. Structured groups focus on pre-treatment needs, addiction management, recovery needs, relapse prevention, the recovery process and other identified needs.
* Detoxification Program - Detoxification services are available through the residential crisis stabilization programs. Nurses and physicians provided medications and support throughout the withdrawal period. Continuing treatment is recommended after detox to prevent relapse.
* Medication Assisted Treatment - Prestera Center provides Suboxone treatment to adults with physical dependence on pain killers and other opiates and opioids. Professional treatment services, regular drug tests and peer support are essential and required components of the program.
* Prevention Services - Prestera provides prevention services through the on-going support of local volunteer substance abuse coalitions across a twelve-county area in West Virginia. The purpose of prevention services is to prevent addiction to alcohol and other drugs and prevent underage drinking through educational programs.
Adult Services * Counseling and Other Outpatient Services - Serving adults above the age of 18, Prestera provides counseling (also called "therapy") and/or case management services for individuals going through difficult times or who are diagnosed with a severe, persistent mental illness. Case Management services are provided when individuals are not able to arrange their own community supports or advocate for themselves.
* Partial Hospitalization Services - Partial hospitalization programs provide intensive services Monday through Friday designed to stabilize psychiatric symptoms and avoid hospitalization. Partial hospitalization programs maintain community placement and participation.
Children & Adolescents * Outpatient Services - The Children's Outpatient services provide office-based therapy to individuals and families for children ages 4-18 who are dealing with emotional, behavioral, or substance abuse issues. Therapists engage the children and their families to develop individualized treatment plans that benefit everyone. Some individuals may continue to qualify for these services beyond the age of eighteen if they are still involved in school. Psychiatry and psychological testing services are available. * School-Based Services - School-based services reduce barriers to learning and enhance healthy psychological development of school-age students by providing students services at public school locations. Services include evaluations, psychological testing, therapy (individual, group or family), supportive counseling, treatment planning, case management and crisis intervention. Staff are based at public schools and attend meetings with school staff. They provide informational presentations to classrooms and faculty at local schools. * In-Home Services - The goal of in-home services is to preserve and protect the child living with the rest of the family. In-home services teams provide case management and therapy services for children with serious emotional disorders and their families. The in-home services therapist's primary responsibility is to provide individual therapy and family therapy. The in-home team provides on-going evaluations of individual strengths and needs, facilitates treatment planning meetings, links families with needed services, and serves as an advocate for the child and their family. These activities are conducted primarily in the consumer's home but can be provided at a Prestera Center office.

One quick last question. Who was seeking counseling today?
Do you know the reason they are not accepting clients?
Qualifying for assistance from West Virginia's program usually depends on the severity of your condition and financial circumstance. Read our full guide to West Virginia's program.
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
