Community Behavioral Health Outpatient Services
We offer a variety of services for people of all ages, from early childhood to seniors. Counseling may be appropriate if you or your family member are experiencing thoughts, emotions, or behaviors that are troublesome or affecting your relationships either at work, home, or school. Counseling helps many people who are experiencing worry, stress, loss of sleep, or unusual weight loss or gain. Counseling can be very helpful when alcohol and other drugs are interfering with the quality of a persons life.
Services to enrolled clients may include any of the following: 24-hour crisis response Brief interventions Case management Psychiatric and medical services (mental health & substance use) Individual, family and group therapy (mental health & substance use) Child and family programming School-based services Adolescent services Education and training opportunities Wellness and Recovery Center - peer support services, vocational training and clubhouse Substance abuse services
Child, Adolescent and Family Services
Our professional, experienced prevention, intervention and mental health teams include psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, social workers, child and youth workers, therapists, addiction counselors, case managers and others. We work with and welcome clients from all backgrounds and cultures. The SLV Behavioral Health Group is committed to client-centered care, providing intensive and specialized services for young people with behavioral health challenges.
We provide: Comprehensive assessments Early childhood consultation in childcare centers Psychiatric care and Medication consultations Individual and family therapy Specialized treatment groups for children and youth for mental health and substance abuse issues Behavioral health services in collaboration with our school districts Consultation on diagnostic and treatment issues for primary care physicians and other health care professionals Parenting programs offering information, education and support Home-based services Wrap-around services Adolescent Programming
Crisis Services Call 911 for police assistance if the situation is life threatening or if it looks like someone may get hurt. If there is no immediate physical danger, we provide confidential help for any mental health, substance use or emotional crisis, 24/7/365. Prevention/Intervention Programming Prevention/Intervention services are integrated into all programming within SLV Behavioral Health Group. We offer training and consultation around suicide prevention, early childhood education, substance abuse prevention, violence prevention and community coalition work with the goal of increasing the health and wellness of the San Luis Valley families and communities.
Fees and Payment
The San Luis Valley Behavioral Health Group accepts Medicaid, Medicare, Children's Health Insurance Program, and many private insurances for both mental health and substance abuse treatment. A sliding fee scale is available and is based on your family size and income. No one will be denied access to services due to inability to pay.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
