Services Offered
Individual, Family and Group Therapy - Provided for children, adolescents, adults and/or families who need assistance in dealing with issues that may affect their mental health.
Parent Child Interactive Therapy - An evidenced-based therapy designed for parents/caregivers and their young children who are experiencing behavioral and/or emotional difficulties. The main focus of PCIT is changing negative parent/caregiver - child interaction patterns into positive behaviors and interactions.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - Provide treatment that focuses on examining the relationships between thoughts, feelings and behaviors.
Elderly Waiver - Mental Health Outreach - Therapy services provided to eligible individuals in their home to identify, evaluate and provide treatment and psychosocial support.
Emergency/Crisis Services - Available 24 hours per day by calling 319-398-3562. These services are available for individuals who may be experiencing a mental health crisis. A licensed mental health professional and physician are on call after hours.
Integrated Health Home - A service aimed at improving individuals' overall health and wellness. IHH works to ensure that each individual's behavioral and physical healthcare needs are met using an integrated approach. This includes close communication and care management activities with your entire healthcare team.
School Based Mental Health Services - Provided to students in designated schools. Staff work with children and families to identify areas of need, and help them access appropriate services.
Program for Assertive Community Treatment - The team provides a high intensity of outreach services to individuals struggling to recover from a serious mental illness such as Schizophrenia or Bipolar Disorder.
Supported Housing - Services are available to provide skill teaching and support in the areas of symptom management, independent living and interpersonal relationships.
Intensive Psychiatric Rehabilitation - Offers services that focus on recovery and rehabilitation for individuals that want to make a major life changes in their living situation, work status, or education, but may have barriers to achieving those goals. Emphasis is on teaching and supporting the decision making process, building confidence and celebrating successes.
Peer Support Services - Provided by an individual that has lived with the impact of having a mental health disorder. Peer support offers individualized services which may include home visits, check in phone calls, mentoring, support or social groups, and activities in the community.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
