Family Counseling - When a family is experiencing a problem there is no better way to proceed than to come together and openly share the problem that might have the family stuck at some point. What happens is members of the family soon begin to develop a strong respect for each other and the therapist serves as a facilitator to help each other work toward a common solution. In most cases, for example, teens learn of their parents concerns and the parents see that the teenager is attempting to flex his/her independence. Sometimes that independence needs to be discussed before the family can get back on track. Most of the times, this form of treatment strengthens the family and a tighter bond for all the members to each other grows from that point.
Marriage Counseling - In marital counseling the couple along with a therapist discuss issues that are causing problems in their relationship. It could be as minor as who squeezes the toothpaste from the middle of the tube, or as major as an affair that sends a relationship into turmoil. In a sense, a wedge was or is created that needs to be talked through before the couple can go back to a healthy balance. In doing so, the wedge is removed and the couple can go back to a healthier state of interaction.
Individual Counseling - This method of treatment is on a one-to-one basis with the therapist. Probably the most popular form of treatment since the individual and the therapist form a strong bond where trust is established so the person can feel relaxed and respected to proceed on his/her journey of letting go of the things that have a strong hold on the individual. The stronger the bond of trust, the quicker the person can advance in treatment. Depending on the nature of the problem, sessions could be weekly at first until the person has a firm grip on the problem and then the sessions can be more spread out in duration.
Group Counseling - Group therapy is popular as well since in a group setting the individuals give support to each other as they discuss a common topic that might have a bearing on the whole group. Eg. Teenage drinking. Strength and respect for each other starts to build and people soon realize they are not alone in their battle against a common enemy. Hearing another's story or how they proceeded to a solution can give others courage and confidence to continue. Mental Health Adolescent Services - Our mental health therapist help teens to find a healthy balance between their interests and peers, and the support from and responsibilities to their families. Therapy addresses the range of teen problems from extreme mood changes to self cutting.
Mental Health Services for Children (ages 4 - 12) - Younger children are brought to therapy by their parents and care takers for a broad range of concerns and problem behaviors. These problems can vary from hyperactivity and difficulties with school performance, to the most alarming concerns with threats of harm to self and others. Depression in children can often include more anger and irritability, as well as the more recognizable symptoms of despair and sadness. Bullying can often play a factor at this level. Genesis therapists are trained to help parents sort out the underlying causes of their child's problems and develop a treatment plan that builds upon the child's strengths. We help parents to recognize what is within the normal range for their child's current developmental stage, and which behaviors would call for additional interventions. Because younger children are often unwilling or unable to express themselves verbally, we offer play therapy. Through drawing, role playing and games children can use their imaginations to more effectively resolve their anger and past losses, and improve their skills at relating with others more successfully.
Children and Adolescent Behavioral Health Services (ages 13-18) - Some of the more common child and adolescent mental health problems are depression, excessive anger, school phobia, conduct disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, anxiety disorders, grief and loss, and struggles with learning disabilities. The Genesis Counseling Center has services and programs designed to assist in the treatment of these behavioral health concerns. Our therapists are trained to be aware of and sensitive to diversity in the areas of culture, race ethnicity and sexual orientation within the families we serve.
Family Substance Abuse Treatment - Family treatment has three components: parent skills and support group, adolescent substance abuse education and a family process group. For part of the evening, adolescents and parents participate in separate groups, simultaneously. Parents take part in the parent skills and support group while the adolescents participate in a didactic substance education group. Parents and adolescents then come together for the second part of the evening and have the opportunity to process issues relevant to improving their relationship. One-on-one family sessions may be included and will be scheduled as needed.
Emotion Skills Training - Designed to assist the adolescent in building awareness of the underlying emotional needs connected with their problematic behaviors. It teaches emotional processing and regulation skills including anger management strategies and appropriate self-expression.
DUI Counseling - Did you know the more alcohol you ingest the more your blood alcohol concentration level (BAC) increases? Did you know that the more your BAC increases and you get behind the wheel of a car, the higher risk you become for receiving a DWI/DUI and/or become an unwilling participant in an alcohol related automobile accident? Did you know the State of New Jersey has lowered its legal BAC level to .08? Did you know that a repeat offender of the DWI/DUI in the State of New Jersey is in danger of being incarcerated for a minimum of six months? Anyone at any age who drinks alcohol and gets behind the wheel of a car is in danger of any of the above symptoms and/or outcomes.

Fees and Payment
Cost per session is based upon a sliding fee scale. The scale starts at $50 per session and increases depending upon household income. Most insurance plans will reimburse a significant portion of the cost either through in network or out of network benefits. Reimbursement ratios differ depending upon your plan. If you find that Genesis is out of your plans network, a call to your plans member services could tell you whether you have out of network benefits. If you have been unable to clarify your benefits, and would like to pursue services at Genesis, our billing department can assist you in clarifying your coverage at no cost.
Out of network benefits give clients greater choice in choosing a therapist or counseling center. If you have out of network benefits, your fee would be set according to our sliding fee scale and due for each session at the time of service. However, we have tried to make reimbursement as user friendly as possible for our clients by providing you with a receipt at each session with all of the needed information to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement back to you for services.
This is a non profit agency.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
