The Maumee Valley Guidance Center is a Community Behavioral Healthcare Center serving residents in Defiance, Fulton, Henry and Williams Counties. We are here to meet the diverse behavioral health needs of individuals in our community. We strive to meet those needs by determining with you what services will benefit you the most and by delivering services professionally, positively, and ethically. Providing the tools and assistance needed for individuals to enhance their quality of life on a day-to-day basis is our mission.Treatment plans are designed, with you, to meet your individual needs, and may include outpatient services, medication and medication management, Clubhouse Program, and Case Management Services.

Outpatient Services - Outpatient services include both individual, marital, and family counseling and group therapy for Anger Management, Dual Diagnosis and Seeking Safety. These services are provided through scheduled appointments, by a staff of behavioral health professionals.
Home Based Therapy - Home Based Therapy is a structured, strength-based, collaborative, therapeutic relationship between a clinical team and a youth/adult and his/her family for the purpose of treating the client's behavioral health needs. Home Based Therapy works to enhance the family's present capacity to understand the client's needs and to support changes that promote healthy functioning where the client lives, learns, works and plays. Our Home Based Therapists are licensed therapists who can meet with the client at their school, home, office, and in the community to work on mental health symptoms and behavior.
Case Management Services - The Maumee Valley Guidance Center offers case management services to adults and youth with severe behavioral issues or mental disabilities. Case managers assist individuals with various needs so that they may remain independently functioning in the community. Treatment planning, coordinating services, advocating for client's goals, and assisting clients in successful community living are just a few of the services of case management. these services are available 24 hours a day.
Psychiatric and Medication Management - Psychiatric services include psychiatric assessment and diagnosis; psychiatric medication evaluation and management, consultation, and treatment. Psychiatry service not only provides services to adults but also to the special needs of young children.
Prevention Services - We offer many community and school based programs such as: Healthy IDEAS a program that focuses on depression in older adults; Signs of Suicide a school based program for 7th & 9th grades; Incredible Years program a school based social-emotional program for Pre K-1st grade, Mental Health First Aid (Youth & Adult) an 8-hour course that teaches participants how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. Community presentations on various topics available upon request.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
