Luminosity Behavioral Health Services, Inc. was founded in June 2011, to provide culturally based high quality comprehensive substance abuse recovery and behavioral health services that meet the unique needs of adults, adolescents, children and families. We are one of the few multi-service programs for people of color in the Stoughton - Brockton area, serving primarily African American, Latino, Haitian, and Cape Verdeans, as well as Afro-Caribbean, Brazilian, Caucasians and Asians. By design, our staff reflects the diversity of our clientele. We are African American, Afro Caribbean, Hispanic/Latino, Cape Verdean, Haitian, African, gay and straight. We speak English, Spanish, Portuguese, Cape Verdean, Haitian Creole, French and Arabic. Looking around at our staff and listening to the conversations in our common spaces, our clients see, hear, and ultimately feel the cultural diversity of our office.

Mental Health & Substance Abuse Counseling Services - Our programs utilize the evidenced based practice of Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). These techniques are effective in developing a strong supportive empowering relationship with the clients so that they are an active participant in treatment.
Controlled Expressions - Offers a mind body approach to alleviating dysfunctional anger. Issues of awareness, consequences and accountability are explored.
Children's Behavioral Health Initiative - If your child's behavior is making daily life hard for the family, then in-home therapy may be right for your child and family. Counselors work with your whole family, helping you as a parent to help your child. In-home therapy can help your child and family to
- Resolve conflicts; - Learn new ways to do things; - Make new routines; - Set limits; and - Find community resources.
Therapeutic Mentors - Some children want to get along with others, but need help and practice learning to talk or act in new ways. A therapeutic mentor will go with your child to the places where your child has the most trouble and teach him or her new skills, such as better ways to talk or act with other children and adults.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
