Outpatient Services
To make an appointment call: 1-888-294-7802 *Adult Community Clinical Supports The ACCS Program assists more than 450 adults diagnosed with serious and persistent mental illness who have been referred by the Department of Mental Health and are in need of support for their recovery efforts. *Community Support Program CSP (Community Support Program) provides intensive case management services to clients with psychiatric or substance abuse disorders who are considered to be at risk in the community. These supportive services are directed towards adults and children and vary according to duration and intensity depending on the changing needs of the each individual. *Day Treatment Programs Conexions provides structured, short-term day and evening treatment to adults recovering from mental illness and addictions at the East Boston Counseling Center. Conexions also provides services in Spanish and Vietnamese. *Deaf and Hard of Hearing Outpatient Clinical Services Deaf Services Program provides fully accessible, psychiatric and counseling services for people who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing at the Freedom Trail Clinic. *Outpatient Services North Suffolk's counseling centers provide psychiatric and medication services, counseling, and therapy to adults experiencing emotional difficulties, mental illness, or other challenges to daily living.
*Southeast Asian Services South East Asian Community Clinic provides the range of psychiatric day treatment, outpatient counseling, therapy, and medication services, community outreach and rehabilitation services. The Cambodian Clinic is located at the Revere Counseling Center, and the Vietnamese Clinic and day treatment is located at the East Boston Counseling Center.
Child & Family Services
Children's Services Offered: the Children's Behavioral Health Initiative services (CBHI) facilitate access to, and ensure coordination of, care for youth with serious emotional disturbance (SED) in the DCF Harbor Area. Services consist of: Community Service Agency (CSA); Intensive Care Coordination (ICC) and Family Partner (FP) services utilizing a Wraparound model; and the CBHI remedy services In-Home Therapy (IHT) and Therapeutic Mentoring (TM). Including an Early Intervention Program (birth to age three), Supportive Child Care, In Home Therapy, Child and Family outpatient services.
North Suffolk's Early Childhood Services program services children and families living in East Boston, Chelsea, Revere, Winthrop, and the Boston neighborhood of Charlestown *Child Clinical Services
Child and Family Outpatient Therapy is treatment that helps reduce or eliminate emotional or behavioral difficulties impacting children, adolescents and their families. NSMHA treatment focuses on both individual and family, with sessions conducted in the clinic, school, home or community.
*Community Service Agency The Community Service Agency offers intensive care coordination for MassHealth youth, with serious emotional disturbance (SED), under the age of 21 and enrolled in Masshealth Standard or CommonHealth. This program facilitates care planning and coordination of services for individuals who meet the medical necessity criteria by providing Intensive Care Coordination and/or Family Partner services. *In-Home Therapy In-Home Therapy is a program of the Child & Family Outpatient Division. This voluntary service is reimbursable through Medicaid/ MassHealth, and is designed for families with children and youth under 21 who are experiencing difficulty due to a mental health condition in the home.
*Children's After School Program The Children's After School Program (CASP) is a closed referral program and accepts referrals through DMH only.
CASP is a voluntary, community based, therapeutic program for children ages 6 to 13 with emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs. The program is structured and utilizes a positive reinforcement reward system.
*MassStart Participants must be referred by Winthrop Public Schools
MassStart is a school based, community centered program that offers services and supports to youth between the ages of 8-13 and their families. The program aims to reduce substance use, delinquency and promote academic achievement through an incentive based, positive youth development model.
*Community Support Program CSP (Community Support Program) provides intensive case management services to clients with psychiatric or substance abuse disorders who are considered to be at risk in the community. The services are geared toward clients who have a pattern of inpatient admissions or high utilization of ER .
Early Childhood Services NSMHA offers evaluations and early intervention services for children from birth to age 3 in the communities of Chelsea, Winthrop, Charlestown, Revere and East Boston. *In-Home Therapy In-Home Therapy is a program of the Child & Family Outpatient Division. This voluntary service is reimbursable through Medicaid/ MassHealth, and is designed for families with children under 5 who are experiencing difficulty due to a mental health condition in the home. *In Home Supports DDS Supported Housing Program: Supports for adults who have developmental disabilities are available in the Metro Boston area. NSMHA supports the efforts of people to live independently in the community.
*Clinical Services Team Developmental Disabilities Clinical Emergency Team provides emergency services to all Department of Developmental Disability clients in the Metro Boston Area
Emergency Services Boston Emergency Services Team Boston Emergency Services team (B.E.S.T.), under the leadership of Boston Medical Center and with the support of the Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership, provides a comprehensive, highly integrated system of crisis evaluation and treatment services to the greater Boston area; to children, adolescents, adults, including the elderly, the homeless, mentally ill and the multi-cultural populations within the Boston, Brookline, Chelsea, Revere and Winthrop communities.
Addiction Services
*Outpatient Services North Suffolk's Addiction Services Department provides outpatient services to people of all ages who are struggling with addiction at a variety of locations in the greater Boston area.
Evening Conexions (IOP & SOAP) Evening Conexions is a structured outpatient program located at East Boston Counseling Center. The program provides group treatment for adults with addictions and co-occurring mental health disorders.
Adolescent Services North Suffolk Mental Health offers treatment for youth, ages 13 to 17 who are struggling with substance use and co-occurring disorders. Treatment is individualized, and can be combined with psychopharmlogical as well as other child and family services.
MassStart MassStart is a school based, community centered program that offers services and supports to youth between the ages of 8-13 and their families. The program aims to reduce substance use, delinquency and promote academic achievement. Referrals are only through the Winthrop School System
Recovery Services Recovery Support Services are social vehicles for recovery. These non-clinical services often operate to initiate or support recovery in conjunction with the work of formal treatment or other existing mutual aid groups.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
