Pillars Community Health is an innovative health and social services agency, one of the first nonprofits in the state of Illinois to integrate primary medical and dental care with mental health and social services.Pillars Community Health was created by the merger of Pillars and Community Nurse Health Center in January 2018. Together we can trace our history back to 1921 through predecessor agencies. Now as one organization, we are working to make the vision of a healthy community a reality, by addressing the whole health of individuals and families in the western and southwestern suburbs of Chicago.

Mental Health * Outpatient Mental Health - Through office-based, home-based, and community-based therapy, children, adults, and families can learn to improve their overall mental health and functioning. * Childhood and Early Childhood Mental Health Services - Pillars Community Health offers several mental health services to children. * Older Adult Services - Pillars Community Health offers therapy and case management in the home, in office, and in the community for adults ages 60 and older. Psychiatric evaluation and medication management can also be provided. * Family Support Program (FSP) - This is a state-funded program that provides support to families with children who have severe mental illness. * Psychiatry and Integrated Care Services - Our Health Center patients have access to pediatric development and behavioral screenings; screenings for depression, anxiety, peri-and post-partum depression; substance abuse and domestic violence screenings; brief interventions; referral to outpatient mental health; and psychiatry services.
Addictions Services * Early Intervention and/or Outpatient Therapy - If the assessment suggests treatment can be provided through outpatient therapy, we can empower people to get sober while remaining in the community. Treatment may then involve individual and/or group therapy, education and support, and extended care for clients who have completed primary treatment.

Pillars Community Health takes some private insurance as well as Medicaid and self-pay. Some services are offered free of charge; others are offered on a sliding fee scale (payment based on income). We do not turn clients and patients away if they cannot afford to pay.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
