Services Offered
MENTAL AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH
Our mental health makes a huge impact on our overall health - our bodies, minds and hearts are connected. But for many people, visiting a therapist can be uncomfortable and perceived as a cultural stigma. But at Virginia Garcia, we try to take the anxiety and fear out of the process. Patients can access a Behavioral Health Provider to confront challenges such as diabetes, chronic pain, insomnia or addictions and receive support and services to participate in Mental Health Therapy if longer-term counseling is desirable for challenges in life like depression, trauma, anxiety or significant life changes that would benefit from support. To reach a Behavioral or Mental Health provider, patients just need to mention to their primary care doctor about their interest. Our doctors may also encourage or recommend this type of support, as a way to address something in our lives that traditional medical services are not quite covering.
Virginia Garcia offers Behavioral and Mental Health services at all of our primary care locations and School-Based Heath Centers.
*Reverse Integration Virginia Garcia has launched a groundbreaking initiative aimed at reaching a segment of the population facing more significant barriers to accessing primary care - people with serious mental illness and/or addictions. Partnering with local mental health agencies, Virginia Garcia will bring primary care services to three mental health facilities in Washington and Yamhill Counties. Our goal is to bring medical services on-site to the mental health facility in order to mitigate the challenges faced by some people in our community in accessing traditional primary care settings.
Fees and Payment
When you arrive for your appointment at Virginia Garcia, our front office staff will enroll you as a patient. Because we are federally funded, you may qualify for a sliding scale discount based on your household income. To determine your eligibility for discounted services or to enroll you with coverage through Cover Oregon (Medicaid or Private Insurance), you will be asked to verify your household income. No one will be refused care for inability to pay.
Should we determine you're eligible for coverage under Cover Oregon you'll have the opportunity to meet with an Outreach Enrollment Specialist. The Outreach worker can walk you step-by-step through the enrollment process.
Medicaid-Insured Patients
If you're insured through Medicaid and have a Medicaid Open Card, you can be seen at any of our clinics. Those who have been assigned by Medicaid to a Managed Medicaid Plan must have a plan that is within the county where our clinics are located. We can assist you in changing your Managed Care Plan.
Medicare-Insured Patients
Virginia Garcia accepts Medicare and Medicare Advantage patients of all ages. We will ask for your co-payment by cash, Visa, MasterCard, or personal check. Patients with Traditional Medicare may apply for a discount to help with your 20% responsibility by bringing in proof of household income.
Private/Commercial Insurance
Virginia Garcia accepts all commercial insurance, unless you sign up for coverage through another provider (for example, Kaiser). If Virginia Garcia is not a preferred provider with your Insurance, we will still bill and receive payment from them and your cost will be the amount you pay for "Out of Network" services. We will ask for your co-payment by cash, Visa, MasterCard or personal check. You may qualify for a discounted rate by supplying us with household income. This may help with high deductibles or out of network co-insurance. We cannot waive co-pays but we can reduce co-insurance amounts depending on household income level.
If you're insured through Providence Medicaid and you want to receive care from Virginia Garcia, you can only be seen at our Beaverton Primary Care Clinic.
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
