TurnAround opened its doors in 1978 to serve survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner violence in Baltimore County. After seeing a gap in services for individuals abused through sexual violence in Baltimore City, in January of 1995, the agency expanded to provide counseling and support services to survivors in that jurisdiction as well. The agency's name was changed to Second Step, Inc. in 1998 as we celebrated 20 years of service to the community.

Services Offered

TRAUMA THERAPY
TurnAround's trauma therapy includes counseling for victims and survivors of domestic violence, childhood sexual abuse, sexual assault and sex trafficking. Our clinicians are Master's Level licensed therapists that provide trauma-informed counseling. Both individual and group counseling is offered. Therapy focuses on providing a safe, supportive and non-judgmental environment to facilitate healing.

ADVOCACY
Abuse and assault, including domestic, dating and sexual violence, exploitation, and stalking are traumatic events for survivors. Abuse may have both immediate and long-term impacts. The response to abuse and assault may involve police, other investigators, medical responders, evidence collection, and criminal and/or civil proceedings. In addition, there are many rights, services and resources available to survivors. These systems can be complicated to navigate.

CASE MANAGEMENT
Survivors of intimate partner and sexual violence may have multiple needs and encounter significant barriers following an assault. Advocacy-based case managers at TurnAround can assist survivors on an ongoing basis in connecting with services and resources, obtaining information, addressing work and school concerns, and paying attention to safety. Case managers can help survivors navigate the complex justice system while maintaining a focus on the health and well-being of the survivor.

SEXUAL ASSAULT COUNSELING
Sexual assault counseling and all of our services are free of charge to survivors and their supporters at TurnAround's three locations. You can expect highly trained Master's Level clinicians who can provide support in crisis situations, as well as ongoing counseling. TurnAround's clinicians are trauma-informed, and help people cope and manage a range of symptoms related to sexual violence.
