Mental Health Peace River Center therapists work with prospective clients to create an individualized treatment plan to help support the client in his or her health, wellness and recovery goals. Therapists may also provide referrals, as appropriate, for specific Peace River Center services such as Targeted Case Management, Psychiatric Evaluations, Adult Recovery Services, and Child Specific services.

Victim Services The mission of Peace River Center Victim Services is to reduce the incidence of sexual violence and domestic/family violence, as well as promote safety and a higher quality of life through shelter services, supportive programming, counseling, advocacy, education and outreach Polk, Hardee and Highlands counties.
Domestic Violence Services Peace River Center's Domestic Violence Program provides free, confidential services for individuals affected by domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking crimes, their family members and friends in Polk, Hardee and Highlands counties.

Crisis Services The Crisis Response Team (CRT) is a mobile outreach service designed to provide mental health services in various settings for immediate on-site crisis assessment, crisis intervention, and counseling, linkage, and referral follow up contact as needed to promote crisis resolution and evaluation and arrangement for inpatient psychiatric hospitalization as appropriate and necessary. The purpose of the CRT is to decrease involuntary psychiatric inpatient admissions of individuals that would be better served by other community resources, and facilitate access to mental health and other community services as warranted. The CRT intervenes during mental health crises, consults with the involved individuals' family and/or significant others (such as school personnel), recommends action, provides immediate support, and facilitates referral to ongoing appropriate services.
Services Crisis intervention and counseling Referral program Follow-up to promote crisis resolution Evaluation and arrangement for inpatient hospitalization as necessary Substance Use Treatment Peace River Center's Substance Use Services program is certified and licensed by the State of Florida and is a practical, effective and evidence-based approach to prevent unhealthy alcohol use, non-medical use of prescription medications, and the use of illegal drugs. We provide help for alcohol and drug-abusing adolescents and adults, as well as their families. Our program features an abstinence-based treatment program model that focuses on the development of healthy behaviors and lifestyle choices. Every person has exceptional individual strengths - our goal is to help identify and build upon those unique strengths.
Our outpatient counseling provides treatment for adults and adolescents, their families, and/or their significant others who are affected by the use of alcohol or other drugs.
Services Offered: Participants may be self-referred or referred by others, such as family members, courts, the Florida Department of Children and Families, adult probation, juvenile diversion programs, and others.

A sliding fee discount is available to eligible individuals. Proof of income and residence must be provided.
PRC will never deny services to anyone based on their inability to pay. PRC will provide discounts to patients based on family size and income.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
