Child & Adolescent Behavioral Health Children and adolescents can benefit from treatment to address a variety of presenting problems: out of control behavior, depression, abuse or trauma, difficulty in school, and more.
Our Child & Adolescent Behavioral Health program offers a complete array of services to children and adolescents from age 3 to 17. Psychiatric Services Family Counseling Service's medical professionals provide medication assessment and management services. Services Offered:Psychiatric evaluation (determines diagnosis and recommends medication) Medication management (follow-up to monitor progress with medication) Psychiatric nursing Psychiatric case management
Substance Abuse Treatment Family Counseling Service is licensed by the Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse to provide outpatient drug and alcohol evaluation and treatment services. Older Adult Services amily Counseling Service's Older Adult program is for seniors (age 60 and above) who are struggling with loneliness, grief, depression, family relationships, or more. Staff usually see clients in their homes for regularly scheduled therapy appointments.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Program Adult Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): A co-educational group for adults (age 18 and older) who have difficulty regulating their emotions, causing reactive and often self-destructive behavior in their personal and professional lives. Participants learn the skills necessary to tolerate and regulate negative emotions.
Teen Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): A co-educational group for teens/adolescents (age 12-17) who have difficulty regulating their emotions. These struggles can lead to self-destructive patterns in relationships, school, and work life. Participants learn the skills necessary to tolerate and regulate negative emotions.
Violence Intervention Services Our Violence Intervention Services are designed to help men, women, and adolescents who have committed acts of violence against someone else, or who struggle managing feelings of anger and the behaviors that come with those feelings.
Mentoring Treating emotional and behavioral problems is what FCS does best. But we recognize that we can do more to help children and adolescents become successful adults. Our 1-2-1 Mentoring program offers personalized mentoring to local youth who are struggling to succeed because of emotional and/or behavioral problems.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
