Appleseed was founded in 1991 concentrating in providing adult mental health services; counseling, case management, crisis intervention, pre-hospitalization screening, diagnosis and medication/somatic.
In 1993 the agency added housing services for low and moderate income people. Two apartments were purchased in 1994 through a grant from the Ohio Department of Mental Health to house individuals with severe mental disability.
Since its founding the agency has provided mental health services to the Ashland community. The agency has grown from its beginning with 12 employees serving only adults seeking mental health treatment to its current role in the community offering mental health care to all ages, services in all of the local schools systems, employment services, 24 hour crisis mental health intervention, community housing programming, and domestic violence and 24 hour sexual assault shelter and support services.

Adults Mental Health Services Adult Counseling Services At Appleseed Community Mental Health Center, our professional counselors help clients embrace the freedom that individual counseling services offer. With counseling, people successfully learn to overcome life issues that include stressful relationships, chronic worry, sleep problems, work performance issues, and depression.
Counseling help Working with a counselor, patients get treatment for mental health issues and symptoms like: - Depression. - Sleep issues. - Lack of enjoyment for life. - Deep-rooted, stressful memories. - Challenging family relationships. - Chronic anxiety. - Lack of motivation. - Job challenges. - Suicidal thoughts.
During counseling sessions, your caring mental health counselor will help you explore behaviors, as well as feelings and ideas, that are negatively influencing your mental health, and identify methods for behavior modification. Depending on the scope of your problem, our counselors may use therapy techniques to identify unconscious conflicts of which you're not even aware, that arise as emotional problems in the present.
Youth
Crisis Intervention: This service offers 24 hour response to emergency situations either by phone or depending on the level of intensity, in person
Mental Health Assessment: This service involves a Clinical evaluation provided by a licensed mental health professional in which the necessary information is gathered to define youth or family's concerns and help set goals for treatment. Functioning level, and strengths
Individual and Family Counseling: This service focuses on interactive therapeutic interventions which focus on the treatment needs of the individual and/or family seeking mental health services
Group Counseling: Group counseling is an interactive therapeutic intervention which focus on the treatment needs of the individual seeking mental health services in a group setting
Pharmacological Management Services Offered: This service is provided by a physician trained in psychiatry to use medications and other intervention used to reduce, stabilize or eliminate psychiatric symptoms.
Community Psychiatric Support (Individual and Group): This service is actually an array of services and activities that provide treatment, support and rehabilitation. The emphasis of this service is on nine specific treatment interventions: Assessment of needs, Skill development, linking, symptom monitoring, assistance in crisis management, advocacy, family education, elimination of barriers preventing independent functioning and social integration.
Keeping Families Strong: Program funded by the United Way of Ashland County and Mohican Area Community Fund that allows Appleseed to provide services to needy families
Child Psychiatry Services Child psychiatry services can make visions of a compliant child who's successful in school and in relationships a reality. It can help turn around what's a seemingly impossible situation to caregivers dealing with rebellion, out-of-control behavior and legal problems. Child psychiatry services can help your child get back on track, whether she's dealing with ADHD, depression, anxiety or a host of other mental health problems.

Therapy - The hallmarks of our child psychiatry services' approach to counseling include considering the child's cognitive development and ability to express herself, focusing on developing social skills and problem-solving behaviors, and encouraging supportive caregiver relationships.
Medication - Child psychiatrists may treat mental health problems with medication, having the qualifications to accurately diagnose conditions and prescribe the right meds.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
