Our mission is to empower women to lead more independent lives. We aim to reduce economic inequality, improve mental well being and facilitate personal development. To do this, we offer support and guidance, signposting, counselling, legal advice and social activities and courses.

We provide a safe and non-judgmental environment for all women regardless of situation or background. Our services are completely confidential. Women's Counselling
At Derby Women's Centre, we provide low cost counselling for women in a predominantly female-only environment. During counselling support, women can work through issues such as low confidence and poor self-esteem, relationship difficulties, depression, distress following abuse or trauma, stress, anxiety and bereavement. Our counsellors will listen to your worries and concerns and empower you how to resolve issues or to change the situation. Sometimes, it can help just to share your feelings with your counsellor. We have received impressive feedback from our previous counselling clients.
Mental Health & Wellbeing Support
Providing mental health support to women in Derby and Derbyshire is one of our key priorities. According to research from MIND, women are more likely to suffer from mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. Our mental health support includes counselling, a support group, therapeutic and confidence building activities and complementary therapies.
Domestic Violence Support
At Derby Women's Centre, we are a leading provider of domestic violence support in the Derbyshire area. We offer support to women who have experienced any form of domestic violence. Our domestic violence services include the Freedom Programme ( a support group aimed at survivors of domestic abuse) and counselling support. Less obviously, our range of social and creative activities can help women who have experienced domestic abuse to rebuild confidence and self esteem, reduce isolation and make new friends in a relaxed and friendly setting. All of our services are confidential and non-judgemental.
Men's Counselling Service
We are now providing low cost counselling for men as part of our newly launched Derby Men's Wellbeing Service.
During counselling, men can work through a range of issues relating to low confidence, low self esteem, relationship difficulties, parenthood, depression, distress following abuse or trauma, stress, anxiety and bereavement.

We aim to provide a low cost counselling service with affordable fees that are less than private counselling. Fees vary according to income and ability to pay and are agreed to at the initial assessment stage.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
