FAMSA's Services are divided into five main sections, each serving the specific needs of different groups, including: - Community Development, Counselling, Employee support services, Training and Education.
Relationship building / Family strengthening
- To undertake intake and crisis counselling to individuals and couples and families - To undertake, prepare and enrich programmes to couples contemplating marriage and enrichment of married couple's relationships - To Undertake individual, couple, gay, lesbian and family counselling and assist them to deal with the issues impacting negatively on their relationships and to deal with HIV issues in their relationships - To undertake divorce counselling to couples and families - To undertake divorce mediation and guide parents with a parenting plan as custodians of their children. - To undertake employee assistance and trauma debriefing - To undertake counselling to and provide support to women and children affected by domestic violence - To undertake counselling with perpetrators of domestic violence and equip them with anger management skills
Youth Development / Linking family strengthening to the moral regeneration campaign
- To undertake Life skills with youths in 2 high schools and primary schools and out of school youth focusing on different soft skills and issues of sexuality, HIV and teenage pregnancy, and other issues that may arise - To undertake holiday programmes and render therapeutic groups for children in difficult family circumstances because of the impact of domestic violence and divorce, separation and death in the family - To train volunteers in basic counselling skills / Growing the economy and sustaining human development - To mentor social work students
WOMEN DEVELOPMENT / Focusing on families at risk and providing care to vulnerable members
- To run therapeutic support group for women affected by domestic violence and perpetrators groups for their partners - To initiate and refer women to income generating projects and research feasibility of business ideas for the women affected by domestic violence
FAMILY PRESERVATION / Enhancing on family resilience and family preservation
- To undertake reunification of families - To strengthen families and keep families key/primary caregivers of children - To undertake outreach programmes - To Undertake craft, sewing and business support skills - To undertake programmes that involve men and liase with the men's fora
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND CAPACITY BUILDING
- Mentor, Coach and build capacity to smaller community based organizations that render services to families - To lobby, network and coordinate with other organizations with a view to promoting healthy individual, family, and community life - To undertake media broadcasts, publications on FAMSA services and family life through radio magazines, newspaper and television. - Ensure celebration of international days, especially launching services on the international Day of the Family (15 May, Annually)

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
