Services Offered
ALCOHOL & OTHER DRUG SERVICES - Emerge Aotearoa provides tailored and intensive treatment programmes to support clients in their immediate and long-term recovery from addiction and substance abuse. Addiction and substance abuse occurs where alcohol or drugs dominate how a person functions. This is often accompanied by a physical and / or psychological dependence. It is a compulsion to use a substance or persist with certain behaviour no matter what, in order to feel good or to avoid feeling bad. Addictions are different for everyone - depending on the substance, behaviour the person craves and the type of person they are. At Emerge Aotearoa, our qualified clinicians and peer support specialists have come together to create and deliver programmes that cater to each individual's needs and recovery goals, in the safety of their own community. We work with our clients to understand the root cause of their addiction and support them to make positive changes in their lives. Emerge Aotearoa also offers specialist Dual Diagnosis services for clients who are affected by mental illness and drug and alcohol issues.
DEAF MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES - Support people who have a mental health diagnosis and are deaf or hearing impaired. The service supports clients with a recovery focused approach to help them reach their goals. We offer services from Whangarei to Hamilton.
CHILD, YOUTH & WHaNAU RESIDENTIAL SERVICE & COMMUNITY SUPPORT SERVICES - An estimated 1 in 5 teenagers and young people will experience some form of mental health issue during this formative period in their lives. It's easy to know when your child has a fever, but a child's mental health issue can be harder to diagnose. Even a mild mental illness can have a big impact on a young person's life and can lead to disruptions at home, at school or in the community. Tackling child and youth mental health issues is complex and challenging, however help is available. Emerge Aotearoa provides services for infants, children and youth with mental health and addiction support needs, or who require care, protection and support. Our child and youth services work alongside families and whanau to ensure positive long-term recovery outcomes are achieved for clients.

If You Call, Please Let Us Know How it Went:
Were You Able to Make an Appointment?
One quick last question. Who was seeking counseling today?
Do you know the reason they are not accepting clients?
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
