Services Offered

Men's Programme - For ages 17 years +. This programme takes place within a mix of individual or group settings. Both invite men to consider different ways to think and behave to achieve a violence free life. Topics covered include: types of family violence; cycle of violence; values and beliefs; strategies for change; and the impact of family violence on women and children.

Women's Programme - For ages 17 years +. These programmes offer women who use violence in relationships an opportunity to consider the Impacts of their abuse on family/whanau. Topics covered are similar to those covered by male clients but also include areas unique to women.

Te Ara Tika o Tane - The Pathway - For ages 17 years +. The aim of this programme is to reduce and prevent family violence through a tikanga Maori based delivery such as:
* Whanaungatanga - Connections and relationships
* Whakariterite - Conflict resolution
* Mohio - Education and information
* Whakawatea - Raising awareness and understanding for oneself
* Whakaoho - Pathway to the future

Participants will be offered the necessary skills to a pathway of changed behavior. Key steps towards navigating the changes are:
* Acknowledging the existence of the abuse
* Recognising the significance and impact of abuse
* Accepting full responsibility to cease the abuse
* Actively building respect and equality in relationships

Youth Programme - For ages 11-17 years inclusive. Group/individual programme: 8 sessions (including parent/caregiver sessions) The Youth programme provide sessions for young people who are at risk of using violence or who have used violence, in their relationships with family/whanau. These Programmes aim to give young people tools to develop healthy relationships based on equality and respect. Parents and caregivers are also required to attend support sessions.

Anxiety Management - For ages 17 years +. One 2 hour session per week over a 3 week period. This programme is for people whose violent behaviour is impacted by anxiety. We provide separate programmes for men and women. People attending this programme may have a diagnosis of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, but a formal diagnosis is not needed.

Family/Whanau Support - Rise and Family Works collaborate to provide a treatment plan for families engaged with either agency. This support enables a violence free future for the family / whanau, partners and future generations.


Please note: Te Ara Tika O Tane, Anxiety Management and Youth Programmes are only available in Whanganui. Referrals to all programmes can be made by other agencies or anyone can self refer.
