Sexual Harm Counselling - CAPS Hauraki can help you find a Therapist to support you in your recovery through the ACC Integrated System for Sensitive Claims.
Parenting teens - Everyone needs a little help sometimes when parenting teens. Our Counsellors support parents to find ways to connect with their teenagers and build healthy relationships. Our Youth Workers also work directly with young people and families to provide support and advocacy so that families can thrive.
Parenting Advice for Dads - Becoming a father is not easy and knowing how to support your partner is a part of the challenge. A new baby often includes a lack of sleep, resources and a change in your relationship.
Violence in the home - Children and young people can be affected by living in a home with violence (emotional, physical or sexual). Getting support for yourself and for them are key in helping everyone to heal and thrive. CAPS Hauraki offers individual tailored programs, group programs for both children and adults, as well as counselling and social work to help your family heal from domestic violence. Whether you are currently living in family violence or the violence has stopped, we can help support you to have the life you want for you and your kids.
Anger Issues - Everyone in your home deserves to feel safe and it is great that you are keen to get some support so your feelings don't hurt other people. CAPS can help with parenting programs, counselling and support to deal with what is happening for you so you can better be the parent you want to be.
Bullying at school - As a caregiver it can be really hard to see your child/ren struggle with difficult issues like bullying. Some people find it really useful to talk with our Counsellors or our Youth Workers to see what can be done to make the school environment safer and to learn strategies to support the young person. Many young people also find talking to our Counsellors and Youth Workers really helpful, we can support children and caregivers of all ages so don't hesitate to contact us.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
