The Sauk County Department of Human Services is dedicated to providing high quality, effective and efficient services for all county residents according to need and eligibility. Priorities include: treating everyone with dignity and respect, enhancing self reliance, protecting the vulnerable, and promoting healthy families, relationships and life styles.
Responsible for income program eligibility determination and job referral as well as providing services to abused, neglected, delinquent children and their families. Responsible for services to mentally ill, alcohol and drug involved individuals, and developmentally disabled, as well as individuals in need of long term support services in order to continue living in the community.

Mental Health Services We provide individual, couple, and family therapy for Sauk County residents of all ages. This includes: * Crisis Intervention/Follow-up and Linkage * Mental Health Counseling * Couple and Family Therapy * Services for Children and Adolescents * Psychiatric Evaluation and Treatment * Psychological Testing * Group Therapy
Substance Use Services We provide adult and adolescent counseling and support services to residents of Sauk County who have alcohol and/or other drug abuse problems. Services Offered: * Substance Use Prevention Education * Substance Use Assessments * Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) * Individual and Family Counseling * Inpatient Placement/Referrals * Intoxicated Driver Treatment * Group Therapy
Fees and Payment
Services for Mental Health and Substance Use may be paid through private insurance, HMO's, Medicaid, Medicare, or self-pay. The fee for Sauk County residents will be fee-based on ability to pay.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
