Services Offered
Family Services - ATWC's Family Services include Therapy Services and Granger Grove, a residential care parenting programme for mothers and their children based at our Otahuhu headquarters.
Child Psychotherapy - Child psychotherapy can help with developmental delays caused by factors including abuse, depression, anxiety, trauma, the effects of loss, grief or change, aggression and violence, child/parent relationships and coping with chronic illnesses.
Mellow Parenting - Mellow Parenting is suitable for families where there may be domestic violence, child abuse, mental health problems or difficulties between immediate or extended family members.
Counselling Services - Depending on your needs, our counsellors may focus either on exploring current issues and making choices or on your past experiences to help you resolve issues and move forward. You can discuss with your counsellor what they can offer you and how you can benefit.
Granger Grove - ATWC's skilled social workers, counsellors, child psychotherapists and caregivers help mothers learn new parenting and home-making skills including cooking, budgeting and establishing good household routines.
Social Work - Our Social Work Services are integrated with ATWC's Family Services and Early Childhood Education Services - taking a holistic approach to protecting and nurturing children, young people and their families so they can enjoy the happy, healthy lives they deserve.
Fees and Payment
ATWC has a sliding, negotiable scale of donations and fees for self-referring clients, which is based on what they can afford and is discussed at their first appointment. We may also be able to help self-referring clients to access other funding sources. Fees for agency referrals are set and range from $100 for individual counselling/ psychotherapy sessions to $150 for co-therapy sessions. This is also a registered charity.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
