Menslink has been supporting young men in the Canberra region for over fifteen years through our free counselling, volunteer mentoring and education programs.
In that time we have helped thousands of young guys get through tough or lonely times with the least amount of pain or harm to themselves or those around them.
We help young blokes reach their full potential and become the great adult men they want to be, because we believe everything is possible for them, their families, their mates and our community.
Services Offered
We believe that young men have lots of potential and much to offer our community. But we know that everyone, including young men, face challenges at some point in their lives.
Some of the challenges facing young men include: -Hassles with parents, often in mixed families -Being bullied at school, at home or in the neighbourhood -Problems with a teacher or boss -Something bad happening to someone close (death in the family, etc) -Relationship break up -Losing a job or having problems getting a job -Money worries -Using alcohol or drugs to cope with difficult issues -Being controlled by anger or other destructive emotions -Addictions to things like Internet porn or gambling -Adjusting to life outside school, home or detention
If you know (or you are) a young guy facing a challenge and could really use someone to talk to, give us a call and come in for a chat.
We believe that young men are capable of finding solutions from their own strengths and resources. Our counselling service helps them identify and access those resources in order to bring about positive changes in their lives.
We provide a safe place for young men to explore options to solve challenges that may have arisen at school, at home, with friends, their health, their money situation or even their spirituality. If needed, we can also work with parents or other significant people in their life.
Counselling is offered at our office in Holder, or at selected schools and centres around Canberra.
Fees and Payment
All of our services are free to young guys and their families.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
