The Kuwait Society for the Handicapped (KSH) is a private charity founded on 23.07.1971 under the Law No. 24 for the year 1962 and its Amendments, pertaining to clubs and welfare associations. It is the first charitable Society in the State of Kuwait that renders services to children with disabilities at no cost. The center was inaugurated on 5th December 1993, occupying an area of 11211 m², of which 3149 m² constitute building space. It has recently been expanded by an additional 1000 m². The building comprises two sections; one has been designated for development disorders, while the other caters to multiple handicap children. It includes classrooms, physical therapy areas, occupational therapy rooms, a therapeutic pool, examination rooms and psychological evaluation rooms. Also available are training workshops, a theater and a library. The building is surrounded by green space, gardens and playgrounds that play host to recreational and sports activities.

Services Offered

The Psychology Departments at the KSH Day Care Centers conduct psychological tests on new students to complete their file requirements and to present the same to the Admission Commission. The psychological services include providing a psychologically sound environment for children that is maintained by conducting periodical psychological evaluations of all students. This is done in conjunction with monitoring the child’s conduct, rectifying undesired behavior and hence initiating psychological intervention. Art and education staff is regularly guided and instructed with regards to the psychological attributes and needs of each child, while the concept of correcting negative behavior is looked upon as a significant program offered to the students. These psychological services also include home care by means of regular family guidance throughout the year, whereby parents and family members are advised on the best means for dealing with the child, strengthening their awareness of their child’s disability and appropriately linking the family with the relevant training program.
