Relationship Therapy At Aurora, we understand relationships - the love and the frustrations. Our relationships have the power to build us up and tear us down. They can be safe havens in the storm and places we go to recharge from all the stress around us, and at the same time they can be the things that undermine everything else we do. People come to Aurora for help with many relationship concerns: * communication issues * relationship stress * sexual compatibility * impacts of affairs and secrets * disconnections due to trauma * extended family stress * childhood issues getting in the way * rebuilding trust * balancing step-families & blended families * rekindling romance * re-connecting after the parenting years * sexuality & gender identity * ... and so many more...
Family Therapy Our most powerful experiences are often with our families. They shape who we are and how we see the world. Our families can have the power to build us up and to pull the rug out from under us. Often we get the most frustrated with those closest to us, and when we are sad, they are the ones we need the most. Families are under more stress today than ever. Competing needs, schedules, fears, all add up to disconnect us from each other. Family Therapy is a unique opportunity to help families talk and share with each other to help us heal the hurt that has been caused, and to bring closeness back where there has been distance. Families come to Aurora for issues like: * Communication Issues * Parenting * Blended and Step Family Issues * Separation / Divorce * Sibling Rivalry * Grief / Loss * Launching Teens * Impacts of Trauma and Illness * Anger * School Issues * Extended Family Stress * and more...
The Homicide Bereavement Program The Homicide Bereavement Program at Aurora Family Therapy Centre offers ongoing counselling to adults, children and families of those who have suffered the devastating loss of a family member to human violence. Family members who have suffered such a loss not only are left with the deep grief of an untimely death, but also with frequently traumatic images and memories of how their loved one died. This combination of truama and grieving makes the process of adapting to the loss particularly challenging and unlike other losses.

If You Call, Please Let Us Know How it Went:
Were You Able to Make an Appointment?
One quick last question. Who was seeking counseling today?
Do you know the reason they are not accepting clients?
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
