Services Offered
The Men's Program The Men's Program provides services in Grey and Bruce Counties to end gender based violence, for men to become the better parents and for male survivors of sexual abuse to overcome the effects of childhood sexual abuse.
The Partner Assault Response (PAR) Program The PAR Program focuses on a wide range of personal and cultural issues that lead to controlling behaviours, abuse and violence in relationships. The goals are to help men and women understand and change the underlying beliefs and attitudes that lead to violence in relationships. This will lead to alternative and healthier relationships based on respect and equality. The PAR program is 12 sessions long. Ages 18 year(s) old and up. We have a continuous intake with no or only very short wait times. Client fees are based on income, ranging from $ 5.00 to $ 80.00.
The Male Survivor Program The Male Survivor Program is designed for men who have experienced sexual abuse and violence as children and / or youth and are looking for recovery and healing. This program provides individual sessions and is free of costs.
Addiction Services Addictions Services is a team of counsellors who work together to offer a range of services for people who are concerned about their own gambling and use of alcohol or drugs or someone else's gambling or substance use.
New Directions provides services for adults and CHOICES provides services for youth up to 20 years of age. Both programs provide comprehensive assessment, community treatment and follow-up. Our counsellors meet with people one to one, and appointments are provided in Owen Sound and at locations throughout Grey/Bruce. We offer groups for individuals and family members on a weekly basis in Owen Sound. All of our services are free and completely confidential.
New Directions provides counselling services that are based on individual goals and ongoing discussion with your counsellor.
CHOICES Drug and Alcohol Counselling for Youth We offer assessment and counselling for children and youth up to the age of 20 and/or their parents who are experiencing concern/worry about substance use issues. Counsellors meet with young people who are worried about parental/caregiver use of substances. Sessions are generally one to one and are offered in Owen Sound and Hanover, as well as in high schools across Grey and Bruce counties.
New Directions for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Problems New Directions is for people wondering about their own, or someone else's Alcohol, Drug Use, or Gambling Behaviours.
Adult addiction and gambling treatment is offered by New Directions for Drug, Alcohol and Gambling problems.
We serve adults ages 20 and older who are experiencing problems related to substance use, gambling and concurrent disorders, either their own issue or that of a family member/significant other.
Substance Use Treatment We offer assessment and counselling for those concerned about their use of alcohol and/or other drugs. We talk with family members and others who might be concerned about someone they care about. We work closely with other community professionals, including doctors, community presentations or workshops.
Problem Gambling Treatment Our counsellors work with people who are struggling with gambling issues and/or the people who care about them. We can assist our clients with self-selecting out of casinos or gaming establishments, budgeting and referrals to other treatment programs.
Addiction Court Support The program offers five structured education and counselling sessions for people who are currently facing substance use related charges in court. Referrals generally come from the court system and participation letters are provided and considered by the court as they make decisions regarding charges and sentencing. Addiction Court Support counsellors work closely with other community professionals to support their clients. This program operates in both the Owen Sound and Walkerton courts.
Addictions Treatment for Pregnant and/or Parenting Mothers Our counsellors work with moms who are pregnant and/or parenting children up to the age of six, and who are struggling with substance use issues. This program offers one to one sessions in Owen Sound and Hanover, and can include in-home visits. We work closely with doctors, hospital social workers, women's centres and child development programs and support those clients who are involved with child protection services.
Concurrent Disorders Treatment Services Our concurrent disorders specialists work with people who have been diagnosed with a serious mental illness, including bi-polar disorder and schizophrenia and who are also struggling with substance use issues. We work closely with other community mental health professionals, and doctors and offer appointments in Owen Sound, Hanover, Markdale, Southampton and Kincardine.

Client fees are based on income, ranging from $ 5.00 to $ 80.00. Other programs are free of cost.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
