The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Cochrane-Timiskaming Branch is part of Canada's longest standing mental health organizations. CMHA-CT is a non-profit charitable organization offering community mental health services to individuals living with mental illness to support them in living fulfilling lives. CMHA-CT also creates awareness and understanding of mental illness in our communities through advocacy, education and campaigns.
Services Offered
Addictions Services CMHA-CT offers Outpatient Concurrent and Addictions Services for client struggling with Substance Abuse and Problem Gambling. Services offered in New Liskeard, Englehart and Kirkland Lake.
Supports and services available through this program include: * Individualized assessment and treatment planning. * Referral to in-patient substance abuse and problem gambling programs across Ontario. * Personal and system advocacy. * Referral to external community agencies. * Family support and education. * Public education and consultation. * Referral to consulting Psychiatrists. * Relapse Prevention and after care. * Crisis intervention and planning.
Behavioural Supports Ontario Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO) offers a service for older adults with complex and "responsive" behaviours linked to (dementia, neurological conditions, substance use and mental illness). Person centered care and support for this population and their caregiver will be provided wherever they live -at home, in long-term care, or elsewhere.
Case Management CMHA Cochrane-Timiskaming Branch has a range of individually tailored support and assistance available to people experiencing challenges related to living with a mental illness.
Involvement usually begins by the person seeking service and identifying strengths, abilities and resources available with the Mental Health Worker to draw on to help meet needs that are important to the client.
Supports and services available through Case Management include: * Ongoing assessment and goal development; * Crisis intervention and outreach; * Supportive counselling and assistance with problem solving; * Assistance in accessing treatment and support in addressing symptoms and * following through on treatment recommendations; * Coordination of services with natural supports and other agencies; * Assistance in meeting basic needs; and * Advocating with and on behalf of clients as necessary. * Supporting clients who have agreed to a Community Treatment Order

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
