S.U.C.C.E.S.S., our primary service delivery entity, was founded in 1973 and incorporated in 1974 as a non-partisan and non-profit charitable organization. Initially founded to assist new Canadians of Chinese descent to overcome language and cultural barriers, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. has evolved into a multicultural, multi-service agency assisting people at all stages of their Canadian experience.
Today, the organization is recognized as one of British Columbia's largest social service providers. With over 20 locations, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. proudly services local communities in Greater Vancouver, Fort St. John and overseas in Taipei, Taiwan and Seoul, Korea. Through advocacy, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. is also recognized as a prominent voice of positive social change.

Individual and Family Counselling Most of our counsellors have graduate degrees in Clinical/Counselling Psychology or related discipline and are registered with various professional associations. We ensure that our counselors receive ongoing training and education in order to keep our knowledge up-to-date.

Problem Gambling Program * Public Awareness & Prevention > to promote public awareness on problem gambling > to provide information to the public on the nature of problem gambling and healthy alternatives > to identify risk factors and characteristics of problem gambling in the local community
* Clinical Counselling > to provide counselling and therapy to individuals and families with regard to emotional support, financial management, relaxation, leisure planning, dealing with loss, skill development, family relations and relapse prevention > to match client to appropriate program
Relationship Violence Prevention Program - Cultural Education The Relationship Violence Prevention Program is a 17-session group which is co-facilitated by 2 facilitators. The program is delivered in Chinese (Cantonese / Mandarin) and participants MUST BE referred by Probation Officer
Fees and Payment
Most service are free. Counselling Fees range from $25 to $130 per hour, based on a sliding scale Referrals from the Ministry of Children and Family Development will be FREE OF CHARGE
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
