Primary health care is the cornerstone of health services in the Kingdom of Bahrain. It is the first point of contact for individuals in their quest for healthcare. It includes many services that allow individuals to enjoy and sustain a healthy existence. These include the promotion of healthy behaviors and early detection of diseases, diagnosis and treatment, as well as rehabilitation services. The integration of mental health in primary health care is the best way to provide integrated services, where primary care is the direct line of contact and the first between the individual and his physician. These steps will also contribute to reducing the cost of service due to the expected decline in secondary health-care referral as well as the reduction of the stigma by attending the psychiatry hospital.

Services Offered

- Family and social Counseling Services: the process of helping family members (parents, children, and relatives), individually or as a group, in understanding the family roles and responsibilities, to achieve domestic stability and solve family conflicts. - Marital counseling service: the process of helping the individual to choose his or her partner and to help them engage in marital life to achieve compatibility and solve pre and post-marital conflicts. - Postpartum depression Service: the service helps women with moderate postpartum depression, to gain basic life skills that help her balance the psychological and social aspects of her life. - Promotional, preventive, curative and rehabilitative psychological services are provided through all health centers.
