The Morongo Basin Healthcare District is a special hospital district created by the state of California to access locally-controlled funds to meet health needs of the rural population in the Morongo Basin. Formerly known as Hi-Desert Memorial Health Care District, its defined area encompasses 1,800 square miles, from Pioneer Town to Wonder Valley, from Johnson Valley to the Joshua Tree National Park.

Morongo Basin Community Health Center provides residents of Morongo Basin with many options for those seeking behavioral health and wellness support. Services are provided to both pediatric and adult patients. Staff includes a fully licensed psychologist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), and a full-time psychiatric physician's assistant for consultation and patient-specific medication maintenance.
All counseling sessions are conducted in a safe, supportive and private environment.
Fees and Payment
Morongo Basin Community Health Center, formerly Hi-Desert Family Health Clinics, offers a variety of payment options including Medi-Cal, MediCare, IEHP, and some major Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs). Please check with your insurance plan to confirm if Morongo Basin Community Health CEnter is contracted with your individual health plan.
We also offer assistance for self-payment on a sliding fee scale based on family size and income, thereby providing the assurance that no patient will be denied services based on the ability to pay. To qualify for this discounted self-pay fee, please request the form from our Registration Clerks when you arrive for your appointment or download the form below. Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average.
