CALWORKS MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES - CalWORKS Behavioral Health/AOD Services is a multicultural behavioral health and substance abuse program for CalWORKS participants that helps improve personal and family issues that may keep them from finding economic and emotional self-sufficiency. CalWORKS Behavioral Health/AOD Services is a program member of the Community Health Alliance.
* Individual counseling for participants and their families * Substance abuse treatment * Psychiatrist consultation * Support and guidance to deal with personal and family relationship problems, especially domestic violence * Women's support groups * Relaxation and meditation groups * Parenting classes * Vocational guidance to learn how to improve a career * Coordination with other community resources to solve problems
OLDER ADULT BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES - The Behavioral Health Older Adult Program is a Full Service Partnership contract with the Department of Behavioral Health to serve low-income older adults living with acute behavioral illness. Program staff will do whatever it takes on a 24/7 basis to manage a client's illness and recovery.
* Treatment for Behavioral Health and Substance Abuse * Assistance with finding a safe, affordable, and appropriate living place * Assistance arranging for doctor appointments and getting appropriate medications * Assistance with acquiring daily living skills * Assistance with finding activities for daily living (paid and/or volunteer)
CHILDREN'S BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES - As a provider in the KidConnections Network of care, we provide developmental screenings, assessments and interventions for children prenatal through 5 years old. Services may be provided in a child's home, school, community or location of caregivers' choice. The team conducting the screening, assessment, and providing the intervention services may include a Mental Health Clinician and/or a Developmental Specialist depending on the needs of the child. The team will debrief the family on the outcome of the assessment explaining conclusions and recommendations for services. Recommendations for services may include:

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
