Services Offered
Outpatient Therapy - Address a variety of needs including, but not limited to, situational stressors, family relations, interpersonal relationships, trauma, psychiatric illnesses, and life span issues. Tri-County offers individual and family therapy in locations throughout Clay, Platte and Ray Counties. Our therapists offer a variety of specialties and scheduling options.
Outpatient Substance Use Treatment - Tri-County Mental Health Services delivers outpatient substance use treatment services to the general adult population and to adolescents ages 12-17 and their families/significant others. A full range of clinical services are utilized to address social, emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual needs. Services are delivered on a timely basis in the least restrictive environment and reflect treatment recommendations based on individual need.
Therapeutic Alternative Program (TAP) - TAP is an outpatient program offering both group therapy and group education in order to provide additional support as well as skills to help individuals manage their mental health symptoms.
Older Adult and Caregiver Support Groups - Tri-County offers an array of support groups, where older adults and caregivers can come together and talk about the challenges they face and receive support from a licensed clinician.
School Based Services - Tri-County currently partners with two area school districts to provide a Licensed Clinician that is housed in the school district. The School Mental Health Liaison is able to provide onsite assessment and therapy to youth who otherwise may not be able to receive needed services. The Liaison is also able to link youth and their families to other services within Tri-County as well as to other community resources.
Treatment Courts - The treatment court program is intended to address the underlying mental health issues and/or addictions of the offenders instead of focusing only on their crimes and punishment.
Fees and Payment
Appropriate fees are determined for each individual. The cost of individual treatment is based on a number of factors, including household income and the number of dependents living in the household.
In some cases, private insurance is accepted. In addition, public funding is available to cover the costs of treatment for those who meet the criteria.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
