The MHMR Authority of Brazos Valley is a public non-profit community MHMR center. Through the Texas Health & Human Services Commission (HHSC), we have the administrative responsibility and authority to provide a continuum of mental health and intellectual and developmental disability services to eligible individuals who live in Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Robertson, and Washington counties. We provide the highest quality of services, which promote dignity and independence, to individuals and their families who are challenged with issues related to mental health and intellectual disabilities.

Services Offered
Mental Health Services - provides treatment and assistance to adults with serious and persistent mental illness and also children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbances. Treatment is comprehensive and directed toward stabilization in the home, workplace, and community.
Crisis Service - Our center provides recovery-oriented mental health treatment to adults with severe and persistent mental illness and children/youth with a diagnosis of mental illness who exhibit serious emotional, behavioral, or mental health disorders.
Diagnostic Assessment - Information, and Referral which include assessment services and linkage to appropriate community resources.
Case Management Services - which are primarily site-based services that assist an adult or caregiver in gaining and coordinating access to necessary care and services appropriate to the individual's needs.
Psychosocial Rehabilitation Services - which are social, educational, vocational, behavioral, and cognitive interventions provided by the individual's therapeutic team that address deficits in the individual's ability to develop and maintain social relationships, occupational or educational achievement, and independent living skills that are the result of a severe and persistent mental illness.
Children's Mental Health Services - A qualified mental health professional will assess each child/teen to determine eligibility for services. The assessment will last around 2 hours. Children with Medicaid take priority. Based on the assessed level of care, appointments for treatment services will be set up, and a case manager will be assigned who will meet with you within 7 days to develop a treatment plan. If intensive case management is authorized, a specialized case manager will meet with you to begin Wraparound planning. Our children's skills trainers and therapists work with children and families in the school setting, in the home, and in the office. Parents and caregivers are key to helping children improve in functioning and reduce problem behaviors. We ask that parents and caregivers be available and active participants in treatment.

Fees and Payment
There is a Sliding Fee Schedule, based on number in household and family income. Medicaid, Children's Health Insurance Plan, and third party payers that include MHMR as a provider are accepted. We're also a non profit agency, check our ABOUS us page for more information.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
