Communicare is the community mental health center serving the Northern Central counties of Mississippi, including Calhoun, Lafayette, Marshall, Panola, Tate, and Yalobusha. In addition to outpatient offices in each county served, Communicare operates a group home for women who have serious mental illness and a residential substance abuse treatment center, and provides school based services in several public educational systems. Communicare's service philosophy is to provide high-quality clinical services to meet the specific needs of each individual.

Services Offered
Children's Services Communicare provides mental health services, including screening, assessment, counseling, and/or crisis intervention to children and youth with emotional and behavioral problems, along with their families.
Outpatient School-Based Program Communicare's Outpatient School-Based Program provides multifaceted services in our offices and throughout multiple school districts. Services are designed to serve children and youth with emotional or behavioral problems along with their families and can include screening, assessment, counseling, and/or crisis intervention.
Therapeutic Day Treatment Program Communicare's Therapeutic Day Treatment Program provides intensive therapeutic services to school-age children/adolescents with serious emotional disturbances enabling them to remain in the least restrictive learning environment.
L.E.E.P. Leading, Educating, Empowering, & Providing For Our Families The L.E.E.P. Project provides self-help and mutual support for families of children and youth with serious emotional disturbances or mental health challenges. This service increases the knowledge, skills, and confidence of parents and family members in parenting their child/youth.
Intellectual Developmental Disabilities Services Communicare offers a wide variety of services to individuals with a diagnosis of intellectual and developmental disabilities that include: Day Services Adult, Behavior Supports, Home Community Supports, Community Respite, Job Discovery, Supported Employment, and Pre-Vocational.
Prevention Services Communicare's prevention services primarily target children, adolescents, and college-aged populations (including the University of Mississippi - located in Communicare's service area). Currently, Communicare is involved a number of projects, including a mental health education program designed to destigmatizing mental illness, a merchant education training program focusing on reducing tobacco sales to minors, and a prevention partnership with the goal of bringing empirically supported prevention programs to Communicare's service area.
Crisis Services Individuals experiencing a crisis frequently are inappropriately and unnecessarily placed in jail, holding facility, hospital, or inpatient treatment program.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
